Obituary
Monzora Davis was born January 11, 1913 in Lorman, Mississippi, to the late Mrs. Martha Bowie Harris Windchester, and Mr. Jason Harris, Sr. Monzora was the 2nd of 4 children. She found God early in life and remained strong in her faith until her passing, on June 29, 2006 in the Helena Regional Medical Center, Helena, Arkansas.
Monzora later migrated to Arkansas, where she continued to raise her children. She joined the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, and later became an active member of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, until her health failed.
In describing Monzora, the following things come to mind: a staunch advocate of religion, and education, a selftaught fashion designer and an excellent seamstress, a carpenter - she could build tables, chairs, and just about anything she wanted - had a wonderful imagination, extremely witty, a Mother in her Church, and loved to sing.
When she sat in the choir, her Alto voice always stood out, as she sang praises unto the Lord.
She was very organized, always loved a good joke, was a fantastic cook, (people would line up, just to get a piece of her chicken). She was well known for her beautiful and bountiful gardens, which she loved to share with others. She adored her children and grandchildren, and instilled many good values in them. Through the years, she adopted many children and was a major influence in their lives.
She was a very intelligent woman and prided herself in once winning the Spelling “B” at the Senior Citizen Center, and proudly displayed the Certificate she received. She was always willing to do her part and lend a helping hand. She leaves to cherish her legacy and memory 8 children, Mr. Leon Davis, of Steele, Mo., Mrs. Leola White, of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. Elizah Davis, of Fl., Mr. Eby Davis, of Germany, Mrs. Queen Ester Parnell, of Toledo Ohio, Mrs. Lorene Campbell, of Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Barbara Peters-Smith, of Jamaica, NY, Mr. Charles Edward Brown, of Elaine, Arkansas, 1 Sister, Mrs. Mattie Owens, of Natchez, MS., over 200 Grand, Great Grand, and Great, Great Grandchildren, 4 Son-in- Laws, Mr. Willie B. Monzora was pre-deceased by 3 of her children-Mr. Robert Lee Davis, Mrs. Rosie Mae McKinnis, and Miss Josephine Davis, her Mother, Mrs. Martha Bowie Harris Windchester, her Brother, Mr. Jason Harris, Jr, and a Sister, Mrs. Atlanta Mason.
One of Monzora’s favorite sayings was “The Lord Will Make A Way”, and the Lord has truly made a way, by welcoming another angel into Heaven, and awarding her with a crown and these words “thy good and faithful servant well done”.
